CSP Application Ranking

CSP is not for every farmer. If you're just starting conservation work or have a small operation with minimal environmental goals, CSP may not rank high enough to get funded. Also, CSP is competitive—not everyone who applies gets money. Ask your NRCS office if your operation is a realistic candidate.

If you rent land, operate a very small homestead with no commercial ag income, or run a non-farm business, this likely isn't for you. REAP targets agricultural producers with actual farming operations.

If your property wasn't in a Presidentially declared disaster area, or if you're an individual farmer (not a community entity), you likely can't apply. This targets broader community water systems, not individual farm wells or systems.

Skip this if your facility is private property, located in a non-rural area, or in a county without a Presidential disaster declaration. Also not available if your community facility wasn't damaged by a declared disaster.

You're not eligible if you're only running a typical row crop or livestock operation with no forest management or monitoring component. This is for forest-focused work.

Skip this if you're a private farm or ranch operator looking for operational funding. This is strictly for institutional research teams at colleges and universities.

Sweet Home Fire & Ambulance District in Oregon received $8.7M to reduce fire fuels, boost wildfire preparedness, and lower risk in communities at the wildland-urban edge. Relevant if you farm near forested areas or in the district's zone—fuel reduction work may affect access or create opportunities for clearing. Check with your local fire district or county Extension agent about any preparedness programs or land-management resources now available in your area.

Idaho received $7.5M for wildfire hazard reduction on private lands near Interstate 90 and critical transportation routes. The work focuses on removing dangerous fuel buildup to protect property, lives, and water sources while improving emergency response. If your operation sits near I-90 or state/federal forest boundaries, contact Idaho Department of Lands to see if your land may qualify for fuel-reduction work.
